Carey received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Colorado in Boulder and her Master’s in Forensic Psychology from the University of Denver. Carey is a Licensed Professional Counselor extensively trained in providing behavioral health and crisis intervention services to those involved in the criminal justice system. She has over 20 years of experience working with adults and juveniles as well as 10 years providing clinical supervision. Currently, she is the Behavioral Health Programs Manager for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Coordinating CIT training for the office and the program manager for the EPSO Co-Responder program, Behavioral Health Connect (BHCON). She is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Supervisory, Command, and Executive Leadership Institutes earning the Trilogy award. Carey has been recognized as the EPSO January 2020 Employee of the Month and EPSO 2020 Civilian Employee of the Year as well as with a Commander’s Citation and Chief’s Commendation. She provides consultation for law enforcement agencies starting Co-Responder Mental Health Crisis Response programs. Carey serves on the Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention Partnership Board of Directors as suicide prevention is a passion of hers.
